Wednesday May 3rd was a very important day in the history of our college.
We dedicated our gymnasium to the late Lola Miller: former Eaglehawk Secondary College teacher, Mayor of Eaglehawk and much-loved friend of the community.
Our College Captains Macklin and Emily hosted a very special whole-school assembly in order to reveal the new signage for the Lola Miller Sports Centre and share the stage with some of our staff members; revealing their fondest memories of Lola.
We were honoured to have a number of Lola’s family members present at the assembly, as well as Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters and other special guests.
Our very own Mr Pearce and Mr Claridge spoke to the school about what it was like to work with Lola and what kind of impact she had on the community.
Affectionately referred to by many as “Mrs Eaglehawk” or the “Queen of Eaglehawk”, Lola showed an unwavering commitment to her beloved Eaglehawk community. She was hardworking, caring, strong and extremely charitable. She was a fantastic role model for everyone and was, without a doubt, an Eaglehawk icon.
She made lasting contributions to a long list of organisations and events, including the Eaglehawk Swimming Club, Dahlia and Arts Festival, the Eaglehawk Citizens’ Brass Band, Rotary Club of Eaglehawk and Bendigo Health – just to name a few. It was difficult to name anything she had not been involved with.
After a wonderful assembly, a morning tea was held for our special guests. It was great to be able to share stories about Lola and – as many of the guests were ex-students of the college—reminisce on time spent at Eaglehawk Secondary.
A huge thank you to Max Ellis Signs for working with us and doing an excellent job of the signage for the gymnasium.
“I hope to leave a legacy of values: integrity, trust, self-respect and respect for others, compassion and above all, the knowledge of how deeply they have been cherished.”
